Can’t You See?

Ah, can’t you see, can’t you see?
Can’t you even hear
The slide of these walls
—sliding into place. Locked.
You’ve missed your chance, laddie.
When you’ve refused to
Listen to the pitter patter of the can.
Ah, but can’t you see,
How many openings
You’ve had all this time?
But of silence’s sound
You’re not aware.
The noise of silent wretch,
Of endless wanderings
Of endless arguments
You’ve never heard
While your eyes were glued
To my reactions;

Clearly unsatisfied
With the nuts and bolts
—a lot of bolts—
Working behind my
Flat eyes.
Clearly it was a lie
When you said you
Wanted me as
I.
Risky business these lies
You’ve built around my
Blinded eyes.
My silly, foolish tissue.
Tip tap tip tap.
Skip a beat.
A little crack
A little faith
A little blinder everytime.
You stand there
But I feel afloat
—disconnected—
Faraway.
Isolated.
I allowed you inside
My tower.
But you just clung
To my hair and
Dragged.
Dragged.
Dragged me so far
Down.
With my arms broken.
As with everything else.
And I just smiled.
My annoying smile.
You said.
And allowed you
To push me
To that dratted bed.
And allowed you
To tell me that
‘T’is okay.’
Ah, but you understand,
I said.
My fists clung even tighter.
Even as you put roses
Around my neck.
I.
Allowed you this.
In silence.
Now, my love.
There you stand.
Hate in your eyes
My blood in your hands.
Telling me—
‘You’re impossible!’
‘You’re incapable!’
Of what—I wanted to ask.
But I need not bother.
There you are,
My blood in your hands.
Clenched in fury
As the last wall slid into place.
Locked.
You turned away
And walked out.
Ah, you never heard—
Ah, you’ve never seen—
The pitter patter in the can.
The sound of silence
That you refused to understand.
And there you are.
My blood in your hands.
And I smiled.
My annoying smile.
That you never did
Understand.
