The Night is Full of Stars

The night sky is full of stars tonight
And in their shadows, I remember you.
The turn of your head,
Slight curve of your nose,
That engaging smile,
And lying eyes.
The night sky is full of stars tonight.
And just like that,
I remembered why
We said goodbye.

Sparkling waters glitter in the dark
Quiet waves seduced by the wind
They’re calling my name.
My name. My name. My—
There’s no use to examine
The no’s and the why’s.
For right now the echoes overwhelm
And the past overrides the longings.
A drop slides down the leaf
Eager to follow the beckon of the wind.

Is that you? I see you.
A figment of my tormented imagination
Telling me lies again, choking me in pain.
We said goodbye a million nights ago,
Parted in anger and killed hundreds
Of summer days we said we’ll remember.
Leave! Leave me now!
There’s no use coming back
The gentle waves calls my name.
My name. My name. My—

A thousand goodbyes with regret.
Now I’ll never see you again.
All the why’s and the no’s—
Why did you give in?
I told you the truth—I said no lies.
But you did not listen.
Why?
I ache—hundreds of nights imagined
Starlights seen but unseen, without you.
I despised your walled solitude, but not you.

The night is full of stars tonight
And in their shadows, I remember us.
Before you surrendered
And said goodbye, without saying a word.
How could you do this?
How could you leave like this?
I drown in anger and pain and crushing regret.
The tears fall in endless agony.
In vain.
For you will never be beside me again.
